PRODUCT DESIGN CASE STUDY

Settle

Settle project overview

MY ROLE · Problem framing, research plan and product design

Settle

I started Settle around the first 30 days of arriving in the UK as an international student. I wanted the next task to make sense, especially when one piece of paperwork depends on another.

01What I wanted to solve

I framed the problem, reviewed official guidance and prepared the survey and interview approach. The research is still in progress, so the task model is a hypothesis to test rather than a validated account of every student’s experience.

02The decisions that mattered

Show the dependency, not just the task.

I modelled which step unlocks another, so a blocked task can explain what to do first.

Give people the next useful step.

I avoided presenting every arrival task as equally urgent or immediately possible.

Keep practical help beside the action.

I included document checklists and plain-language explanations with official sources.

03See the work

The screens below show how those decisions came together.

Dependency map of a new student's first 30 days: enrolment and a term-time address unlock the university bank letter, which unlocks the bank account; the eVisa account produces the share code needed for the bank and for the right to work

04What I can show, and what I would test

The evidence currently supports the problem framing and research plan, not participant findings. I would reconstruct students’ actual arrival sequences and compare them with the order suggested by the official guidance.
